About the MERV 16 rating.
What is MERV 16? Well, MERV is actually an acronym for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values. MERV is a system for rating air filters according to their average particle size efficiency on a scale from 1-16 with 16 being the highest capture efficiency for average particles in the 0.3 to 1.0 micron range. The rating is derived from a test method developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
What is MERV 16? Well it’s an air filter. Most air filters are labeled with a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating number, which measures a filter's ability to trap particles ranging in size from 3.0 microns to 10.0 microns. A residential filter commonly has MERV ratings of 7, 11 or 12. The higher the MERV rating, the more efficient the filter is, and the more particles it can filter. While most manufacturers are content to offer their customers a filter with less than a MERV 12 rating, FilterStream AirTamer is committed to excellence in using filters for the AirTamer Model A700 and A710 only filters with a MERV 16 rating.
What is MERV 16’s efficiency rating? MERV 12 filters are 85% minimum efficient at capturing particles, sized 3.0-10.0 microns. That’s the usual standard, but again, AirTamer insists on only the best for their customers that purchase an AirTamer A700 or A710 system. That’s why our filters rated a 99.98% efficiency.
Because the air filter is the only device in the air purification system capable of removing airborne impurities, it makes sense that frequent replacement of the air filter as well as careful consideration as to the type of air filter you use will directly impact the quality of your indoor air.
